MEDIA BROADCAST puts new SNG stations for HD broadcasting into operation

Bonn, May 14, 2008

MEDIA BROADCAST upgrades its SNG (Satellite News Gathering) fleet with a total of nine vehicles. All of the systems are state-of-the-art, HD-ready and redundant. The SNG fleet is characterized by new high-performance antennas and higher transmitting power. The technology enables the vehicles to provide secure access to a wide variety of satellites. MEDIA BROADCAST predominantly uses SNG for its uplink services. Three stations are also equipped with production technology. This provides customers with the capacity they need for HD transmission via satellite. They can use production technology and benefit from seamless access to the media service provider's additional HD network services.

"We've increased our capacity to meet our customers' increased demands for occasional use with these new stations. Combined with our fiber network services, we currently have the largest HD broadcasting offer on the German market," explains Dr. Ulrich Liebenow, Member of the Managing Board at MEDIA BROADCAST. "We generally expect to see increased demand in the sporting event sector, especially with EURO 2008™ and the Olympic Games in China. We also provide our customers with around-the-clock, managed end-to-end services via satellite."

All of the vehicles are able to simultaneously and repeatedly send and receive different formats such as SH and HD without losing their redundancy. (2+1 SNG). The transmission amplifier's high level of maximum output (400/750 Watts) and the optimized antennas (SkyRAY MAS 1900) are even able to reach access favorable satellite positions. Audio components for Dolby-E and different encryption systems are part of the package.

The vehicles equipped with production technology provide connections for up to four HD cameras, an editing suite based on Avid Media Composer, an image and sound mixer (Panasonic/Yamaha) and wireless microphone and intercom technology. The vehicles also come with reserves for MCPC (Multichannel per Carrier) operation and additional HD encoders for more extensive broadcasts.

MEDIA BROADCAST has been employing new components for HD broadcasting in the area of wireline event broadcasting since February 2008.
