MEDIA BROADCAST

2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™

No other event to date has captivated so many television viewers. The 2006 FIFA World Cup™ was also a successful premiere for HDTV and for Mobile TV.

Commissioned by Host Broadcast Services (HBS), MEDIA BROADCAST broadcasted the games completely in HDTV for the first time. Television viewers in the U.S. and Asia as well as customers with the German pay-per-view TV channel Premiere had the opportunity to enjoy the new picture quality. And there was another unprecedented event in World Cup history: mobile phone users could follow the games on their cellular phones.

The heart of the TV broadcasting was the International Broadcast Center in Munich. There, 100 employees from MEDIA BROADCAST prepared image and sound signals from the 12 World Cup stadiums for about 500 broadcasting agencies and media customers in 206 countries. Up to 50 cameras per stadium filmed the games for the first time in HDTV quality. Using these live images, MEDIA BROADCAST also provided broadcasting for most large public screens: this ensured that hundreds of thousands of viewers could experience the FIFA World Cup™ competition in the open air.
