
Highlights from our company’s history
MEDIA BROADCAST has many years of experience in the broadcasting and media sector. Here is a summary of the most important milestones we have reached in the past.
2010 – To meet the demands of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ MEDIA BROADCAST built and operated an advanced fibre-optic TV network, connecting the 10 transmission venues and the IBC.
MEDIA BROADCAST delivered almost 27,000 hours of broadcasting from the stadiums to the IBC, all without any interruption of service. In other words, 100 percent availability!
2009 – Using advanced transmission technology, MEDIA BROADCAST delivered perfect services for the FIFA Confederations Cup South Africa 2009.
2009 – DVB-T – TV Everywhere.
Switch over from analogue to digital terrestrial television transmissions completed successfully. More than 90 percent of the German population can now receive DVB-T via an aerial.
2008 – Implementation and launch of the mobile TV broadcasting network (DVB-H) in Austria.
2008 – The French TDF Group acquires T-Systems Media & Broadcast GmbH from Deutsche Telekom AG. The company’s name is changed to MEDIA BROADCAST GmbH.
2007 – T-Systems Media & Broadcast GmbH is founded on 01/06/2007 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of T-Systems Business Services GmbH.
2006 – TV coverage of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™ on behalf of Host Broadcast Services (HBS).
2006 – Equipping of cinemas in Vienna and Nuremberg for digital cinema.
2005 – The Media&Broadcast division is added to T-Systems Business Services GmbH.
2004 – First connection of international ATM Broadcast Services in the USA.
2003 – Start of regular digital radio broadcasting via Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) live on short wave.
2002 – Launch on behalf of ARD of Hybnet, one of the most modern transmission platforms for radio and television.
2002 – Launch of DVB-T digital terrestrial television in Berlin.
2002 – Broadcasting / Media&Broadcast divisions transferred from Deutsche Telekom to the new company T-Systems International GmbH.
1990 – With the unification of Germany, Deutsche Telekom takes over all broadcasters in the new federal states (Länder).
1990 – The German Federal Postal Service, Deutsche Bundespost (DBP), is restructured. Deutsche Telekom takes over operational responsibilities for the Broadcasters division.
1989 – First test broadcasts for Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB).
1985 – First private FM radio stations.
1961 – DBP granted the right to operate radio and television stations. DBP takes responsibility for creating and operating the radio stations for Deutsche Welle and Deutschlandfunk.
