MEDIA BROADCAST

DVB-T receivable in more areas of Rhineland-Palatinate

Bonn, November 6, 2008

On November 12, 2008 - in one week's time - Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB-T) will be launched in further regions of Rhineland-Palatinate. The existing analog programs will be switched off shortly after 4 a.m. Viewers in the western part of Rhineland-Palatinate with large parts of the Hunsrück and the Eifel as well as areas near Saar and Mosel will then receive twelve public channels via their aerial from approx. 6 a.m. Once the transmitter locations Trier, Saarburg, Eifel and Haardtkopf have gone live, the large-scale switch-over of Rhineland-Palatinate’s broadcasting corporations under public law (SWR and ZDF) from analog to digital terrestrial TV will have been completed. A total of roughly 3.7 million residents in Rhineland-Palatinate will then be able to receive the new variety of channels via their aerial.

The program offer in detail:
Instead of only three television channels, viewers in the areas will soon receive the following programs: Das Erste, ZDF, the regional channels of SWR Fernsehen, hr-fernsehen, Bayerisches Fernsehen and WDR TV as well as Phoenix, ARTE, 3sat, EinsPlus, ZDFinfokanal and, alternatively KI.KA and ZDFdokukanal.

If you watch TV via an aerial, you need a set-top box in all freshly connected DVB-T areas
Households which used to receive their TV channels via a traditional roof-top or indoor aerial require a set-top box to be able to receive the TV signals. This DVB-T receiver then acts as an interface device between the aerial and the traditional TV and costs from approx. EUR 50 in the shops.

The switch-over does not affect you if you receive your TV channels via cable or satellite. There is also no change for radio listeners.
